Lacey Rosenberry, a 22 year old Lady Drag Racer from Galesburg, Illinois finished 2nd on FridayÕs 52nd World Series of Drag Racing at Cordova, Illinois.

For those of you new to drag racing, the World Series is the worldÕs oldest event.

Just last week, Lacey and Don (her father) made a decision to add the ÒI-39 RACEWAY PARK MINONKÓ & the www.i39rpm.com name to her Super Comp Dragster.  The second place finish in ÒET Bracket BoxÓ category helped further spread the word about the proposed racing facility among Midwest racers.  On her way to the second place finish, Lacey had to defeat approximately 100 other racers in 7 rounds of eliminations in the ÒBOXÓ class.

At this point you may be wondering how a girl ends up in drag racing.  Well, in LaceyÕs case, she started in the IHRA Junior Dragster Program when she was 11 years old.  Now 11 years later, Lacey drives a Super Comp Dragster capable of 170+ MPH and has a personal best E.T. (Elapsed Time) for the Quarter Mile of 7.85 seconds.  Not to bad for a Ògirls car?Ó  For comparison, a run-of-the-mill economy car might run a quarter mile in about 15 or 16 seconds.

Currently Lacey is sponsored by the Plumber and Pipefitters Union, Local 25.  If Lacey is lucky enough to gain additional sponsors, her short-term goal is to upgrade to an even quicker semi-professional dragster.  Lacey on occasion does public appearances for the Union.  Additionally, Lacey has testified at Zoning Hearings on behalf of racing.  Lacey is very Pro-active about racing interests, and the importance of family values in racing.

As and update to the World Series Pro racing action, Tony Schumacher was the winner in the Top Fuel match races, and in Funny Car, Tim Wilkerson driver of the Levi, Ray & Shoup, Inc. outlasted Frank PedregonÕs Dutch Mafia, Jack WyattÕs Race Girl and the Creasy racing entry. In Pre-ProMod Nostalgia racing Animal Jim Feurer (pronounced Foyer) came away with Low ET and Top Speed of the event.

A record number of cars, competitors and spectators attended the 52nd running of the World Series of Drag Racing at Cordova, Illinois.  Based on past performance, the 53rd addition should be a fun event for all, mark your yearly planner to attend August 24, 25, 26 & 27th, 2006 at Cordova Dragway Park.
