— Bumper sticker of the week: When Bush took office, gas was $1.46.

— Quotes of the week: ÒUnderground nuclear testing, defoliation of the rain forests, toxic waste.... LetÕs put it this way: if the world were a big apartment, we wouldnÕt get our deposit back.Ó John Ross

ÒIn the long term, the economy and the environment are the same thing. If itÕs unenvironmental, it is uneconomical. That is the rule of nature.Ó Mollie Beattie

— Election time: Get out and vote! Hopefully, theyÕll count it. As the ever popular Joseph Stalin said, ÒItÕs not who votes that counts, itÕs who counts the votes.Ó Computers leaving no paper trail is an invitation for cheats and scoundrels to steal elections. IÕm not so sure that hasnÕt already happened. In any case, elections are very loosely held. People used to swear under the penalty of perjury that the vote was correct. With each election, the fraud gets worse and the accountability drops. After more and more elections, serious questions arise as to who the winner might actually be. It is time for us to take the polling place back. Hell, what am I saying? The American people arenÕt likely to take back anything. WeÕre way too dumb, apathetic, and gullible.

— Speaking of dumb: The Knox County Board Chairwoman is crying about the sheriff not attending meetings. Now who in their right mind would go to a Knox County Board meeting if they didnÕt have to? You got to be really bored and interested in nonsense to think about attending a county board meeting. ItÕs not you that needs any protection, itÕs us, from you. So quit your crying and get to doing something. Just about anything would help. In case you havenÕt noticed, weÕre in real trouble. So far, that county flag hasnÕt helped us.

— Open letter to Congress: You are a bunch of dysfunctional sociopaths. Go away. Sincerely, The Peever.

— More and more people I talk to work longer and longer hours and earn next to nothing for their efforts. ThatÕs crap. Actually, thatÕs Capitalism. Cheap labor. The Republican Party champions this. ÒWork hard and youÕll prosperÓ is the same line of bull as ÒSomeday youÕll get your just reward in Heaven.Ó ItÕs all designed to keep you right where youÕre at — under their thumb. ItÕs about time we put that thumb where it belongs.

— Rush Limbaugh is nuts. Any radio station that plays his crap should be ashamed of themselves.

—A Òto doÓ list:

¥ We need to go back to more government regulation. While that can be a major pain in the butt, we would be much better off. Food, transportation, utilities, drugs, are but a few areas that we have seen deteriorate under the watchful eye of big business. They wonÕt regulate themselves!

¥ Religion and politics donÕt make good bedfellows. One snores and the other stinks.

¥ Get organized. Make a list. Check it twice. Make a new list the next day. Never write down the same thing over two days in a row. ThatÕs called being smart.

¥ Demand free services from your bank. Those people are nickel and diming us to death. You canÕt trust a banker. They take our money, and when we ask for it back, they charge us for it. ThatÕs wrong.

¥ If your boss makes more than you, tell him or her to kiss your ass at least once a week. They should be doing something to earn their money. They for sure arenÕt over-working.

¥ We obviously have to pay some taxes, but enough is enough. Taxes should not exceed income or make our lives any tougher than it already is. Adjustments need to be made, not in the way we live, but in the way ÒtheyÓ live.

¥ I got to remember to pick up the poop in the backyard.
