LEAVE IT TO PEEVER

– Bumper sticker of the week: Bush/Cheney 2004: We’re Gooder.

– Quote of the week: They cheat you and fire you and send our jobs South,

They’ll take what they can to feed their own mouth.

A million or two –what they get for the screw,

And all that you get is the feeling of blue.

Reefer Madness, it’s all around.

It’s a good excuse to take you down.

The prisons are filled with the smokers and tokers,

But you sure won’t see many corporate jokers. "Reefer Madness," The Peever

– The compliance officer caught me napping at my desk. Technically, this was out of compliance. I told her I was meditating on the mission statement and envisioning a new paradigm. I got a raise.

– It’s already been a year since my mother died. My father died when I was 18, so my parents have both passed. Being an only child, it feels pretty weird. I’m lucky to have a wife and two children. Thinking of being alone leaves me with a haunting feeling that makes my weak. I feel bad for people who are alone. It would be horrible.

– We can’t win in Iraq and Afghanistan. They don’t want our help. They hate us. Support our troops – bring them home.

– Right—wing philosophy:

• Keep it simple.

• Use God in every other sentence.

Use America in the sentence in—between.

Keep human rights to a minimum.

If it ain’t "right," bomb it.

Guns are the best way to maintain order. Killing the enemy is the best way to create peace.

Don’t give the poor any breaks.

If you’re not white, Christian, and Republican, you’re suspect.

Commandment #11: Do as I say, not as I do.

Discredit anything that makes sense.

– If it weren’t for 9/11, where would Bush be?

– Wal—Mart hires aliens: I thought some of those greeters looked like Martians. Damn them!

– Cheap labor is the modem rendition of slavery in Bush World. And we think we’re free.

– Where is Monica Lewinski when we need her?

– So far, the only Democratic candidate making sense is Dennis Kucinich. He obviously doesn’t have a prayer.

– NAFTA is bringing an end to America’s prosperity. In another 25 years, we will have 20 percent rich and 80 percent poor. Thank you, Bill.

– Dealing with the mentally ill: Most are now in prison or living in substandard conditions. I suppose that is a form of treatment, commonly called mistreatment. Zeller was too big and a waste of taxpayer dollars. If a unit were to cover 23 counties, 40 beds would probably be just about right. If you break up those counties into quarters, 4 facilities at about 10-12 beds would about do it. It’s a matter of what we’re willing to pay for. In Illinois, our record has not been very good concerning the mentally ill. These decisions should not be political, they should be medical. Politicians need to ask the right people what is needed, and then back it with votes and money. I realize that’s painful and takes all the fun out of it, but still….

– County continues to back GREDA: They’re back to the same old thing. The good—old—boys cry wolf, and the county comes a running. I’ll bet no one on the board bothered to ask what we’re getting for our $30,000? Look around!
