Complementing cancer therapy
Are drugs, radiation and surgery the answer for a chronic
degenerative illness such as cancer? It depends on whom you ask. For the
individuals that are cancer free from such treatments the answer is yes.
Whether to treat cancer with these high tech methods is a choice several
thousand Americans will have to face each year. Most patients want to know what
the odds are for a cure, what the side effects will be and what their quality
of life will be post treatment. These are important questions to be asking. But
what else is known about this still somewhat mysterious disease that may help
us choose therapy that is well suited to our personal situation?
¯
Cancer is present as a disease process as much as a decade or more
before a tumor mass actually develops.
¯
The younger the individual is when cancer develops the more
virulent the tumor, which dramatically lowers the individuals possibility for
long term survival therefore, calls for more aggressive treatment.
¯
The medical community many times cannot recreate why one
individual will receive a cure, or what they sometimes will call spontaneous
remission, while another may not.
¯
Cancer cells are always present- a healthy immune system weeds out
the cancerous cells that would eventually produce a tumor.
¯
Our genetic makeup plays a major role. Those predisposed to
certain kinds of cancer should be monitored more closely for any early signs of
the disease.
Drugs known as chemotherapeutic agents are still the treatment of
choice. These drugs are first developed by experimenting with plant based
chemicals. The plantÕs active chemical component is isolated and synthesized
and hopefully becomes an agent that is effective against cancer without too
serious of side effects.
Compliments to traditional cancer therapy should include a common
sense diet.
Remove all processed, dead or devitalized foods. Purified water,
freshly made vegetable juices and herb teas will cleanse the tissues and remove
cancerous toxins and drug residue. Supplement the diet with vitamins A, C, E, B
complex, a multi- mineral and beta-carotene.
Remove from your personal environment all unnatural chemicals,
from the water you drink to what you wash your clothes in. These chemicals
whether we ingest them or inhale them alter body chemistry and in general
weaken the entire system.
Larger cancer treatment centers have added manual medicines such
as massage and acupuncture as mainstream treatment. These therapies help
relieve pain, balance immunity, increase blood cell count and help prevent or
reduce depression.
Cancer is a difficult
diagnosis to face but we should not view it as hopeless. Many will opt to take
drugs in the hope that they will receive a cure. By adding complimentary
therapies you will enhance your quality of life and increase your chances for a
cure. Till next time, Rebecca.
