LEAVE IT TO PEEVER
The
return of the Naked Dancing Llama
— Bumper sticker of
the week: IÕm at that awkward stage between birth and death.
— Quote of the week:
ÒMost and perhaps all of industrial agricultureÕs manifest failures appear to
be an attempt to make the land produce without husbandry. The attempt to remake
agriculture as a science and an industry has excluded from it the age-old
husbandry which was central and essential to it.Ó Wendell Berry
— Positive peeverism
of the week: Galesburg has a lot of good home-town places to eat. I favor local
over franchised. I like The New Family Cafe on Lincoln Street for breakfast.
You canÕt beat it. For lunch and/or dinner I like Old Peking, QÕs Cafe, The
Landmark, Jalisco, The Rooster, DelinoÕs, Swedoughs, and McGillacuddyÕs. A
short drive away thereÕs Coconuts and The Barnstormer in Monmouth, and The
Watering Hole at Oak Run. Being a person who loves to eat, Galesburg
restaurants canÕt be beat.
— How to find
happiness:
¥ DonÕt put a price on it.
¥ Listen to your heart, not your head.
¥ Follow your dreams, not someone elseÕs.
¥ Find someone to share your life with.
¥ DonÕt search for happiness too far from home.
¥ The world is full of sorrow, but you can chose to live
happily.
— Philosophy: If a
man speaks in a forest and there is no woman to hear him, is he still wrong?
— Addiction: IÕve
spent a lot of my life trying to figure out why people use drugs. IÕve come to
the conclusion that there are as many reasons as there are addicts. IÕve seen
children 10 years old and adults 85 years old addicted to one thing or another. The
rich and the poor. From the jobless to judges. IÕve seen people I would have
bet everything I own could not make it out of their addiction, only to stand up
tall and beat it. It might have been cocaine, meth, alcohol, nicotine,
gambling, eating, co-dependency. We find ourselves in all kind of dire straits,
but we have the capacity to recover. I wish I could say it is easy, but itÕs
not. It will be the fight of your life. Or I suppose, better put, a lifetime of
fight. It continues for me to be the most beautiful thing to watch. Recover.
— ÒI canÕt think of a
more mediocre human talent than George W. Bush. HeÕs the worst American
President of all time.Ó Randell Robinson
— Never go out with a
guy named Freddie on Halloween.
— Speaking of
Halloween: Some right-wing Christians think Halloween is the devil's day. I
think thatÕs funny.
— Inspirational
messages from the Naked Dancing Llama:
¥ Sleeping is better than sex. At least you donÕt feel guilty
doing it alone.
¥ Silence does not always need to be filled with noise.
¥ Be careful whose toes you step on. They may be connected to
the butt you need to kiss tomorrow.
¥ They say clothes make the man or woman. I say clothes allow
them to hide behind lies.
¥ You can fix up things superficially all your life without ever
really getting anything done.
¥ Education is good if you donÕt remove it too far from everyday
life. Otherwise youÕve wasted your time and money.
¥ DonÕt look for God in Heaven or wait for Him or Her to return.
YouÕll miss the whole point of life.
¥ The higher you travel up the road of financial success, the
further you can get away from yourself.
